For those who have followed us for the last twelve years, always knew it was Baxter, Molly and Kala. Together, the three of us. Chasing adventures around the US, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Canada, Europe, Norway, Scotland, England, Ireland, Portugal, and Spain. We've sailed over 28,000 miles together, the three of us.
After we cruised to the Bahamas in 2022, Kala decided she loved sailing but she preferred the mountains. Baxter and I were committed to making her happy and comfortable. The three of us spent the next two years playing and having fun in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Kala was always adventurous and strong, going on hikes, swimming, and walking two miles a day, sometimes twice per day, until March of 2024 when she was diagnosed with diabetes. She fought it as hard as she could, but it was too much and her little body was struggling. We had to say goodbye in July, but knew that she would still be with us everywhere we went and always in our hearts.
We are now back on Terrapin and it is definitely an adjustment. We see her paw prints, sweep up her fur, and remember the routine that we all had together for the last 14 years. We miss her incredibly but celebrate the fun times and the things she enjoyed most.
The best way for us to celebrate Kala is to watch her videos and see the pictures of her smiling, running on beaches, riding in the dinghy or standing watch.
