Maiden Trip

Maiden Trip is the documentary of Laura Dekker's solo circumnavigation.  She is currently the youngest girl to do so.  We met Laura in Bora Bora in 2011 (click here for the blog post). She was just walking around like any other sailor, but she was only 15 at the time and Guppy stood out prominently in the anchorage due to its red hull. Baxter and I bought her a coke and sat down and chatted with her for about an hour.

In general we enjoy most sailing movies, (yes even 'All Is Lost') and this is definitely a good one. Laura's courage and sense of adventure is inspiring and admirable. The support from her father is endearing.

Hope you'll check it out if you have time.  It is now available for rent on iTunes.

By the way, another great adventure story, our go-to inspiring story, is Yves Gelinas' (inventor of the Cape Horn wind vane) "Jean-du-Sud".  Available HERE from The Sailing Channel.
